According to Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills, best known for taking down weird cult leader Malachi York, the two men gained entry to the driver's compartment, where they overpowered and disarmed Officers Curtis Billue and Christopher Monica.

A massive manhunt continued into Tuesday evening for a pair of risky inmates who shot and killed two Georgia correctional officers in a brazen pre-dawn escape from a prison transport bus 75 miles east of Atlanta.

On Tuesday, a massive manhunt began after Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose allegedly overpowered Christopher Monica, 42, and Curtis Billue, 58, to escape the prison bus they were being transported on.

Georgia's governor is committing to using every state resource necessary to capture two inmates who authorities say killed two guards and then fled.

Georgia Corrections urges anyone who sees the inmates to not approach them and to call 911. "There is no one you can trust. and no where you can go that we won't find you".

In the meantime, authorities did not know where the location of the inmates.

The two men on the loose, according to DOC, are Ricky Dubose, age 24, and Danny Rowe, age 43.

"There is a strong presence right now out on Cox Road concerning this and that's all we can say about it", a Madison police spokesman said Tuesday afternoon, according to the Morgan County Citizen newspaper. Police did not release the suspect's name, but said more details would be released shortly.

The Putnam County sheriff said the men are armed and unsafe.

Eatonton, Putnam County's seat of government, is about 65 miles southeast of Atlanta.

The FBI said the two were seen getting into a "grass green", four-door 2004 Honda Civic with the Georgia license plate number RBJ-6601.

Patton said Dubose is familiar to local officers.

Inmates broke in to residence in Madison, got clothes, left their prison whites and made their escape from there, police said.

It is standard protocol to have two officers - armed but not wearing ballistic vests - transport prisoners on a bus, said Dozier with GDOC. The officers' families are "dealing with it the best they can at this point", Dozier said.

Elsewhere, sheriff's deputies throughout the area intensified patrols looking for the green Honda, which the suspects hijacked after killing the officers, authorities said. In 2012, a guard at the Telfair State Prison was stabbed by an inmate. Sills said the escapees appeared to have ditched the cellphone soon after.
