German Chancellor Angela Merkel urges swift Brexit talks after United Kingdom vote

"Let's get on with the job".

"We are ready to do everything we can to put our program into operation; there isn't a parliamentary majority for anybody at the present time, the party that has lost in this election is the Conservative Party, the arguments the Conservative Party put forward in this election have lost".

With all 650 seats declared, the Conservatives had won 318 seats, the Labour Party had 262 seats, followed by the pro-independence Scottish National Party on 34.

"I think her position is, in the long term, untenable", Conservative lawmaker Anna Soubry told Sky News.

A defiant May vowed to stay on as prime minister and continue to lead Britain out of the European Union after her disastrous election gamble backfired.

"As we're the party that won the most seats and most votes we are the only party in a position to form a government", May said.

The Protestant unionist party also had links with outlawed paramilitary groups during the years of Northern Ireland's "Troubles". The party's opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage places it at odds with modernizing Conservatives.

What does this mean for the United Kingdom and the Conservatives?

South Korea President to meet with Donald Trump at White House: Statement
South Korean officials recently stumbled upon what is believed to be a North Korean drone that didn't make it back home. Moon added, "It would not be impossible for South Korea and Japan to build a future-oriented relationship".

Voters failed to give a ringing endorsement to May's plan for Brexit, which involves leaving the EU's single market and imposing restrictions on immigration while trying to negotiate free trade deal with the bloc.

In the Conservative Party, recriminations were immediate and stinging.

"May stares into the abyss", said The Times' Saturday edition while the Daily Mail led with "Tories Turn On Theresa".

"Honestly, it feels nearly like she is nearly not aware of what has happened in the last 24 hours", Conservative lawmaker Heidi Allen told LBC radio. But few believe she can hang on for more than a few months.

Outwardly, May showed no signs of yielding to pressure.

Following the election, May faced backlash over the failure of the Conservative party, with a number of politicians - including Corbyn - suggesting that she has to resign.

Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May and her husband Philip leave after attending Holy Communion at St Andrew's Church in Sonning, Berkshire, England, Stoday. Just after noon, she was driven the short distance from Downing Street to Buckingham Palace to ask Queen Elizabeth for permission to form a government - a formality under the British system. I am very proud of the results that are coming in and the vote for hope.

Late in the campaign, Britain was hit by two Islamist militant attacks that killed 30 people in Manchester and London, temporarily shifting the focus onto security issues.

For many British voters, the feeling after the country's third major vote in as many years was weariness. The Times' front page said: "May stares into the abyss".
