Golden State defeat Cleveland Cavaliers to claim National Basketball Association crown

The Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers to regain the NBA Championship with a 4-1 series win.

Steve Kerr is expected to return to the Golden State Warriors' sideline after the team won its second National Basketball Association championship in three seasons under Kerr's direction on Monday night, Warriors general manager Bob Myers confirmed. He proudly claimed after the loss that he put forth his best effort and had no reason to hang his head. It was at that point that the momentum of the contest shifted dramatically with the Warriors going on their devastating run over the next seven minutes. The bench helped the Warriors take a 71-60 at halftime. That was when the Warriors' David West angrily ripped a rebound away from Kyrie Irving and was subsequently assessed a technical foul. West, Thompson and J.R. Smith received techs after a replay review.

Sometimes lost in all the chatter about a possible Warriors' dynasty is the fact that Golden State plays lovely, often unselfish team ball. Kerr returned to full-time coaching for the Final's second game. "It's tough to get back, especially with their speed". "It's just making the most of the opportunity that was in front of us". However, they weren't able to convert on those attempts but did chop the margin to five points at 98-93 by the time the quarter had ended.

Kevin Durant led the way for the Warriors with 39 points, with Stephen Curry contributing 34.

This is the third straight year the Warriors and Cavs faced off in the Finals.

For all that chatter about chemistry on a super-team - some called them "supervillains" - how there might not be enough shots for all the big-time scorers, the Warriors kept winning as the world watched the every move of the East Bay franchise under the microscope. "That's one of the biggest things that bothers me". Before this series, his best performance in a series defeat was probably from the 2009 Eastern Conference finals, when the Cavs lost to the Orlando Magic in six games despite James averaging 38.5 points, 8 rebounds and 8.3 assists. Kyrie Irving followed up his 40-point gem in Friday's Game 4 with 26 points but shot 9 for 22. Thompson scored 15 and also hauled down eight boards. "Like I said, tried to be myself, be aggressive and sacrifice as well". "But you don't want to use that as an excuse, they beat us fair and square. I feel like we've grown from that".

"I remember the first day of camp and I walk into camp, and I didn't know what to expect, I didn't know what these guys were like on the court", Durant told reporters after the game.
