Golden State Warriors fans are breakdancing in downtown Oakland and honking their horns in San Francisco to celebrate their team's latest National Basketball Association title.

The issue of teams visiting the White House has become prevalent since Donald Trump's surprise victory in the USA presidential election in November.

The Golden State Warriors' 2017 championship parade is set to begin at 10 a.m. local time in the Bay Area on Thursday.

Championship celebrations at the White House have become a tradition in American sports, with the first believed to have occurred in 1925 when President Calvin Coolidge hosted the Washington Senators.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr has ripped Trump as a "blowhard" and "ill-suited" for the office, and player David West said the president was a poor role model.

"To be a great leader, there have to be some qualities in there", Kerr said. "We try to talk our young people out of being bullies". Whether or not the Warriors will join those teams remains to be seen.

Backup point guard Shaun Livingston said during a radio interview in February that he "definitely wouldn't go" to the White House if the Warriors were to win the championship, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The reigning champion Golden State Warriors addressed speculation about whether they will make the traditional visit to the White House, saying they "will make those decisions when and if necessary". With the addition of Kevin Durant to the fold, they proved to be too much for every team in the league, including the LeBron James-led Cavs.
