Harry Kane comes to England's rescue against Scotland

Harry Kane marked his first game as captain with a stoppage-time equaliser as England denied Scotland a famous victory in Saturday's 2-2 World Cup qualifying draw in Glasgow.

It looked as though the Three Lions were on course for a routine three points when substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the beneficiary of poor goalkeeping from Craig Gordon with 20 minutes remaining. People look at one player now to drag them through but we have plenty of leaders in the team to try and change the game. A number of things have to happen for a goal - you can never tell what phase of play is going to lead to what - but I probably should have just cleared the ball.

England manager Gareth Southgate insists England's injury-time equaliser against Scotland is a "big moment" for the team, as they finally proved they have character. I know what I want to do and this team has great ambition.

After the match, Graeme Souness suggested Gordon Strachan should be offered a contract extension on the back of the performance against England, as he believes that nobody could do a better job than the former Celtic manager has done with the players at his disposal. We know how good this England side are.

Kane's goal was the Tottenham Hotspur striker's sixth in 18 worldwide appearances and came at the end of his first game under Southgate, after injuries had kept him out of England's six previous matches.

There was a free kick we shouldn't concede and then two moments of real quality from Griffiths.

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the only goal as Paul Simpson's side defeated Venezuela 1-0 in South Korea, earning England their first World Cup win since 1966.

"I'm really pleased with the level of training and we'll have to transfer that into the game", said Southgate, as per the BBC. If we had kept the ball better going towards their goal we might have nicked the three points, but you can't switch off against this England side with guys like Harry Kane up top.

"The first free-kick is careless, the second free-kick is a slip, so I'm not sure there's a lot we could have done about that".

Scotland next travel to Lithuania and then host Malta and Slovakia, who are four points ahead of Strachan's side in second, before facing Slovenia away from home in their final group game. We've got to take the finish.

The draw means England's cushion at the top of Group F has been narrowed to two points, but there remains confidence within the group that it is a matter of when rather than if they qualify for the World Cup.

"I certainly don't think they are going to try and price me out of a move, I think there's enough respect between the player and club".

"We've got to have a mentality that we're never beaten and we showed that at the end".

"I want to play, I want to play every game", said Kane.
