Here's what the market thinks the Fed has got wrong

Last month , San Francisco Fed President John Williams endorsed the idea of allowing inflation to rise above two percent to make up for the period in which it has been below target, and Federal Reserve Vice Chair Stanley Fischer praised the Canadian central bank's method of re-evaluating its inflation target every five years. In the late USA session, sterling was up half a percent on the day against both the dollar and the euro.

June 13 USA stock index futures were slightly higher on Tuesday as technology shares staged a recovery after a two-day rout, while investors awaited the Federal Reserve to kick off its meeting, where its is nearly certain to raise interest rates. The contract added 25 cents to close at $46.08 a barrel on Monday.

Most Asian stock markets managed small gains Tuesday despite ongoing pressure on U.S. tech stocks in the previous session. "That includes putting some weight on‎ scenarios in which the Fed under new leadership adopts a more aggressive balance-sheet normalization path than the Yellen Fed is indicating". The euro inched up to $1.1199 from $1.1195. Spot gold was up 0.1 percent to $1,266 per ounce at 0352 GMT.

"If you would have told me that US unemployment rate would be down to 4.3 percent and still have core inflation struggling to get above 1.5 percent, I would have been very, very surprised", Tannenbaum said.

Gold prices went nowhere through the Asian session, gaining a little less than 0.1% per ounce. Support was found near $0.7496.The Aussie has bounced 1.7 percent so far this month, partly due to USA dollar softness and a resilient economy.

A Reuters poll last week showed economists expect the central bank to follow its June move with another 25 basis point increase in the third quarter to take the fed funds rate to 1.25-1.50 percent.

The Fed's preferred inflation measure, the PCE deflator, also came in at a weaker 1.5 percent, well below the Fed's 2 percent inflation target.

But a third rate hike this year would depend on continued economic growth, Kee said.

Risk appetite was stronger during the Asian and European sessions on Tuesday with a rebound in the United States technology sector helping to underpin sentiment as equity markets gained ground. Equity indexes, such as the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average, ballooned to all-time highs.

Yet neither the US nor the world economy is likely to regain the robust health that prevailed before the recession struck a decade ago. France's CAC 40 dropped 1.1 per cent and the Germany DAX shed 1 per cent. Britain's FTSE 100 lost 0.2 per cent.

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) convenes on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Now, the 10-year T-note yields 2.2 percent, down from 2.6 percent in March.

When investors buy a lot of longer-term Treasury debt - which is viewed as a safe haven for global investors to park their cash - prices on 10- and 30-year Treasuries rise while their yields fall (bond prices and yields have an inverse relationship).

Gold turned slightly higher on Tuesday, as the market awaited signals of future monetary tightening by the U.S. Federal Reserve and a Senate panel's questioning of Attorney General Jeff Sessions about his dealings with Russian officials.

US gold futures for August delivery settled down $0.3, or 0.02 percent, at $1,268.60. Brent crude, used to price worldwide oils, added 19 cents to Dollars $48.48 per barrel in London.

Benchmark U.S. crude added 25 cents to $46.08 a barrel in NY.
