IndyCar Racing Odds: Who will win the Rainguard Water Sealers 600? 6/9/17

Will Power (12), of Australia, speeds out of his stall after a pit stop past Mikhail Aleshin (7), of Russian Federation, during an IndyCar auto race at Texas Motor Speedway, Saturday, June 10, 2017, in Fort Worth, Texas.

However, as Scott Dixon explained, qualifying pace is not necessarily indicative of strong race pace.

Simon Pagenaud, of France, heads into the front stretch during the IndyCar auto race at Texas Motor Speedway, Saturday, June 10, 2017, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Before Saturday night's race, numerous drivers in the IndyCar Series were concerned the newly-repaved track surface at Texas Motor Speedway was going to produce a "single-file race".

Will Power (12), of Australia, leads Tony Kanaan, of Brazil, out of Turn 4 during an IndyCar auto race at Texas Motor Speedway, Saturday, June 10, 2017, in Fort Worth, Texas.

"Like the easiest day of your life if you lead a pack race", Power said.

Drive Charlie Kimball poses with the pole aware in victory lane at Texas Motor Speedway, Friday, June 9, 2017, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Will Power stayed in the clear and emerged victorious Saturday night at the Rainguard Water Sealers 600 in one of the craziest races the Verizon IndyCar Series has seen in years.

The yellow flag waved and the race finished under caution with just seven cars running on the lead lap and nine cars running at the finish. Instead, he grew more specific when asked about the final crash of the race - the one that saw an aggressive Takuma Sato wipe out championship leader Scott Dixon.

Only eight cars finished the race, including six on the lead lap.

"I had to avoid a lot of contact, as well, got really frustrated in the middle of the race and then towards the end. During qualifying we just took a swing at it and went out and got the job done".

Three whole two-car teams-Ed Carpenter Racing, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports and Dale Coyne Racing-were involved in this crash. That sent him spinning and also took out Dixon. Dixon had been giving Power all he could handle, and Power said he was thinking hard about how he could distance himself from Dixon before Sato took care of that problem for him. He was on the white line, driver's left, and then, just heading into (Turn) 3, came halfway across the racetrack and just pushed me right into Mikhail.

Earlier in the session, reigning Indy 500 champion Takuma Sato provisionally moved to the top of the chart at 221.458 miles per hour, pushing defending event victor Graham Rahal to P2.

"There were a thousand events", Pagenaud said.

With a full moon looming over the track, the red flag came out after an accident involving eight other cars that was blamed on Kanaan, who recovered from the ensuing penalty for his runner-up finish.

Kanaan appeared to move up and touch James Hinchcliffe's vehicle, which careered into Mikhail Aleshin.

Kanaan's team owner, Chip Ganassi, defended him and ripped Hinchcliffe for causing it on live TV.

"He wasn't driving smart, or respectfully", Hinchcliffe said. Carlos Munoz and Ryan-Hunter Reay were knocked out of the race.

UPDATE #3 [11:15 p.m. ET]: Both Ed Carpenter Racing cars (Ed Carpenter and JR Hildebrand) eventually made it back out, however, IndyCar penalized him 2 laps unapproved work under a red flag.

Not only did Hinchcliffe and Dale Coyne blame Kanaan - Coyne even tearing into him as the Brazilian sat in his auto on pitlane following the inevitable red flag - but IndyCar Race Control concurred.

Kanaan was able to continue, but was levied a 20-second stop-and-hold penalty for avoidable contact when racing resumed.

Team Penske's Will Power held off a thin field of hard-charging drivers who survived one of the most crash-filled races in IndyCar history.
