Mario Kart is officially coming to VR

"The globally popular Mario Kart Arcade GP has been reborn at the VR ZONE with the kind of thrill-packed action that could only come from a VR activity", the site says.

The Mario Kart Arcade VR kiosks feature racing seats, steering wheels, and pedals inside a pod that's dressed up as a kart from the Mario Kart game series.

A VR arcade called VR Zone Shinjuku opened its doors today in Shinjuku Japan, and its selection of VR titles is impressive. The race is seen in the first person, and famous "Mario Kart" items such as the red and blue shells are tossed at opponents by gesturing with your hands. It nearly seems too good to be true, but an official website confirmed the existence of Mario Kart Arcade GP VR. Now, they're looking to freshen up the image of their out of home entertainment business by opening dedicated VR Arcades, complete with seated motion platforms and HTC Vive virtual reality powered experiences. UploadVR recently reported that this official website notes that the Bandai Namco arcade game Mario Kart Arcade GP would be making its way to arcades in Shinjuku, Tokyo, supported by the HTC Vive. This experience also features wrist-mounted devices that track your wrist movement to allow you to fire Kamehame Waves.

Nintendo aren't likely to bring Mario Kart 8 to a virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) any time soon, but that doesn't mean you should miss out on slinging bananas and shells in VR. Bandai also holds the distribution license for "Dragon Ball" video games.
