Mother and son broke with tradition by living at Trump Tower in NY since the inauguration so that Barron, now 11, could finish the school year uninterrupted; the president lived and worked at the White House.

The first lady posted a photo from inside the White House overlooking the south lawn early Monday, with both the Washington Monument and the Thomas Jefferson Memorial visible. Her press secretary Stephanie Grisham also sent out a tweet confirming the move. "It is known for its diverse community and commitment to academic excellence", said Melania Trump in a statement.

Joining the Trumps at the White House were Melania's parents, Viktor and Amalija Knavs.

Barron, who will enter the sixth grade this fall, will attend St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland.

"The move helps to give the impression that the president is now in a stable, solid marriage and that his home life is under control", she was quoted as saying.

Melania and Barron caught flak for living in Trump Tower for several months after Donald Trump was inaugurated, costing taxpayers thousands of dollars a day in protection and security. She and their young son have moved into the White House.

Melania is the first First Lady in modern history to delay her arrival in Washington after an election win.

The First Couple was joined by their 11-year-old son Barron, who wore a t-shirt that called himself "The Expert".

Melania has been plagued with reports of an insufficient staff and neglected First Lady responsibilities since her husband took office. By the week before, much of their furniture had already been shipped to the White House and was stored in the China Room on the ground floor so it could be moved quickly upstairs after the Bushes moved out. "They are focusing on a seamless integration of elegance and comfort into where the President, the First Lady, and [their son] Barron will be spending their family time and calling their home".

Donald Trump's in-laws are in the house.

In February, Trump announced she had selected an interior designer, Tham Kannalikham, to decorate the family's private living quarters in the White House, a job that presumably is now complete.

Katherine Jellison from Ohio University, said: "the move helps to give the impression that the president is now in a stable, solif marriage and that his home life is under control".
