The company also announced 42 new titles at the E3 event which will be compatible with all the existing Xbox models but will work the "best" with Xbox One X, as it will enable the 4k experience.

Microsoft's Project Scorpio has a name, and that name is X. The Xbox One X is the company's latest game console, and both the beefiest and tiniest member of the Xbox One family at once.

Xbox One X was designed to be the best console to create and play games on, putting the greatest graphic fidelity in the hands of the world's best game creators to create true 4K games.

"Our team of engineers are working hard to bring some of your original favorite Xbox games to Xbox One today", Microsoft Xbox division head Phil Spencer announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017. The big news for hardcore gamers is the fact that it is considerably more powerful than the PlayStation Pro 4, and will run new and old Xbox games in 4k at a brisk 60 frames per second. This console is officially named Xbox One X - a pretty rad name, if you ask me. Xbox One S also has 4K support at least for its streaming and disc drive. It is much more powerful than the PS4 Pro, boasting 6 Teraflops over the Pro's 4.2 and 12GB of GDDR5 RAM over the Pro's 8GB. We're focusing on Xbox One S and Xbox One X and the games you're going to play.

A game with this badge can output in 4K, either natively or through the use of checkerboarding or dynamic resolution.

Compared with its main competitor, the PS4 Pro, the Xbox One X appears to have a computing advantage - it should be noted that the PS4 Pro was released in September 2016, more than a year later, the Xbox One X will be released.

I personally think the answer is somewhere in between but closer to PS4 Pro status. [.] There's not a ton of work developers are having to do to get to 4K, and then they can spend the extra headroom they have and time to flawless the game they want to build.

Alongside the announcement Microsoft have added backwards compatibility with Xbox 1. The new game console has been priced at $499.
