North Korea Could Test Nuclear-Tipped ICBM (That Can Hit America) This Year

South Korea announced that new President Moon Jae In has nominated former navy chief Song Young Moo as defence minister.

Since he took office in early May, the new liberal South Korean leader has tried to balance strong support for military deterrence and worldwide sanctions against Pyongyang's continued nuclear and ballistic missiles provocations with increased engagement to restart inter-Korean dialogue and cooperation.

"While North Korea wants to wipe Western nations off the face of the Earth, our Government has been diverting taxpayer money to business schemes owned and managed by the regime. North Korea is poised to conduct its first ICBM test in 2017", Mr Robert Soofer, deputy assistant secretary of defence for nuclear and missile defence policy, was quoted by the Japanese Kyodo news service as saying.

North Korean media often spreads propaganda and inflated claims about North Korea's weapons capabilities.

Japan and South Korea struck the landmark accord in December 2015 to "finally and irreversibly" resolve the long-standing row.

As sanctions have tightened, Pyongyang's overseas networks have become increasingly important, with regime officials learning how to "nest" their illicit activities within apparently legitimate global trade, the report said.

Although there is no firm deadline, the USA has indicated the Treasury Department could impose unilateral sanctions on some of these entities before the end of the summer if Beijing doesn't act, the U.S. officials said.

North Korea did not participate in the 1988 Seoul Olympics but South Korean officials hope they will send a team to next year's Winter Games in Pyeongchang. Trump even informed the Japanese prime minister, Shinzo Abe, that "all options are on the table" - including military action - to address provocations by North Korea.

The two Americans never managed to meet Kim Jong-un and failed to persuade officials in Pyongyang.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Monday expressed nostalgia for a period of relaxed relations with South Korea from 2000 to 2007, by marking the signing of the historic 2000 North-South Joint Declaration on inter-Korean relations.
