Qatar says no one can dictate its foreign policy

Senegal was first to recall its ambassador from Qatar's capital Doha.

A week in to the unprecedented blockade of Qatar by its neighbours, there is little sign of progress towards a resolution.

John Ashcroft personally will lead his Washington-based firm's efforts "to evaluate, verify and as necessary, strengthen the client's anti-money laundering and counterterrorism financing" compliance and potentially lobby lawmakers and the media, according to documents filed to the U.S. Justice Department.

The leadership from Pakistan will to mediate and ease the diplomatic crisis between Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

As a result, these countries and allies have severed transport links to Qatar, closing its only land border, airspace and denying it the chance to transport cargo by ship via the UAE.

But the terrorism list published by the UAE and Saudi revealed the depth of Doha's patronage to Islamist and extremist groups.

"We in Qatar are prepared to engage in dialogue positively, but in accordance with the global norms and standards that govern any dialogue as per worldwide law", Sheikh Mohammed said.

Qatar is home to the largest USA airbase in the Middle East, Al-Udeid, making it a key ally in the US-led coalition against IS in Iraq and Syria. As such, with Saudia, Etihad Airways, Emirates, Air Arabia, flydubai, Gulf Air, and EgyptAir having now terminated all flights to Qatar, with all Qatar Airways services both to and across each state's respective airspaces now banned, Oman Air and Kuwait Airways have become the only bloc carriers to continue to offer connectivity to Doha.

"A lot of people think we're the only ones to lose in this", he said. President Donald Trump posted a tweet that may be considered the trigger of the crisis, writing: "During my recent trip to the Middle East (on May 21) I stated that there can no longer be funding of Radical Ideology". Many Somalis are living and working in the Gulf countries and some of the countries have invested heavily in Somalia.

So far, the Gulf states have not issued any formal demands to Qatar, but analysts suggest the deepening rift is being partially driven by the perception that Qatar is too close to Iran. The country sends over 400,000 migrant workers to Qatar, which is the third-largest employer for Bangladeshi citizens in the Gulf region.

QATAR can easily defend its economy and currency against sanctions by other Arab states, Qatari finance minister Ali Sherif al-Emadi told CNBC television in an interview broadcast on Monday.

Sharif told reporters last week in Kazakhstan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit that "we will try our best to resolve the differences between the Arab countries".

He added that Qatar "was facilitating the talks between the Americans, the Taliban and the government of Afghanistan".

Qatar Airways offices were closed in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
