Sony Explains Why They Don't Allow Cross Play on PlayStation 4

Minecraft - the demographic playing that, you know as well as I do, it's all ages but it's also very young.

"Minecraft" will be receiving an update to support cross-platform play between mobile, Windows 10 and console devices this year. Update, June 12 at 11:45 a.m.: Adds details about graphics changes coming to Minecraft in the fall.

When Microsoft announced that Minecraft was getting unified play across Minecraft supporting platforms, Windows 10, iOS, Android, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and VR devices, it was revealed that PlayStation had declined the offer to join in on the cross-platform play. You can see a new trailer below.

Well there you have it. Sony would love to discuss cross-platform play for Rocket League and Minecraft but, ultimately, it has to. The feature will initially launch with four servers - Lifeboat, Mineplex, InPVP, and CubeCraft, but Stone said more will follow. Public servers as you must be aware of, are open to everyone can contain millions of players. Community run servers will also be allowed across the platforms.

Minecraft is about to get a whole lot "Better Together" with its next major update, unifying the game across multiple consoles and platforms, letting you play (almost) anywhere.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition, Minecraft: Xbox One Edition, and Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition will simply become "Minecraft" - owners of all three editions will get the new edition on each platform for free.

Pocket Edition and Xbox One are both catching up.

A separate DLC, called the Super Duper Graphics Pack, will take things even further, offering "dynamic shadows, lighting that streams through fog, movement in leaves and grass, new textures for mobs and villagers, directional lighting, edge highlighting and more!"
