Sony tries to defend their refusal to open up cross-network play

The free update will permit fans of "Minecraft" on iOS to play the game with players on other devices, including Android, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows 10 PC, and VR. As ever, Minecraft took some time on centre stage to announce some new features such a 4K support and cross-platform play - but seemingly, PlayStation owners will be left out in the cold on this one. He also promised that the new "Better Together Update" will bring a more consistent and unified version of "Minecraft".

These cross-platform capabilities are happening because the Switch and Xbox One versions of Minecraft are being converted to Bedrock Engine which is a software foundation that powers Windows 10, VR and Pocket Editions.

The developers have done a special version of the game that runs in 4K resolution.

Also arriving in the summer will see a Community Marketplace, allowing costumes, themes, and more. Microsoft announced the move Sunday in conjunction with the massive E3 videogame conference. And a side effect of the change is that the console versions of the game will no longer be limited to a maximum size of 5,120 by 5.120 blocks. The reason for that seemingly odd refusal, PlayStation global sales and marketing head Jim Ryan told Eurogamer, is that Sony believes it's "got to be mindful of our responsibility to our install base". Minecraft is launching with four servers, which are Lifeboat, Mineplex, InPVP, and Cubecraft. Originally the game was written in Java programming language. "What's more, any DLC you purchase will be accessible amongst the various devices at no extra charge".

Now with Rocket League heading to the Nintendo Switch and getting cross-platform play, it was revealed that Sony, once again, had denied cross-play between their platform and the others. The company also confirmed that it plans to introduce a server browser to Minecraft: Better Together, which will provide access to large-scale online servers like the PC version of the game. Simultaneously with the release of Windows 10, this operating system was released a special version of the game rewritten in C++.
