'Sorry' Theresa May promises to reflect on changes after election setback

May has already managed to make a deal with the controversial Northern Irish party, the Democratic Unionists, to make the next government.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn insists "I can still be prime minister" as he vows to fight Theresa May's attempt to run a minority government "all the way".

Rachel Sheard, who cast her vote near the site of the London Bridge attack, said the election certainly wasn't about Brexit.

The result comes just weeks before Britain faces hard negotiations over terms for leaving the EU. That's what people voted for last June. She's then got to present a programme to Parliament.

The results confounded those who said Labour's left-wing leader, Jeremy Corbyn, was electorally toxic.

The results - a sort of turnaround in fortunes for both major parties - have thrown that timetable into doubt.

The Tories will now have to rely on the DUP's 10 MPs to get things done. Following David Cameron's Brexit debacle on June 23, 2016, this marks the second time in less than a year that an over-confident, Conservative Party leader has been wrongly convinced of the British electorate's readiness to support his or her political mandate.

Mrs Merkel, who is meeting with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto to discuss trade, told reporters gathered in Mexico City on Friday: "I assume that Britain, from what I heard from the prime minister today, wants to stick to its negotiating plan".

British media has been awash with the fact that this snap election has been a political gamble gone wrong for the Conservative party and has thrust the United Kingdom into another uncertain political environment.

May won her Maidenhead seat in south-east England with 37,780 votes, but faced pressure to resign after losing her parliamentary majority she had before the election.

May had hoped to build a stronger majority to help her in Brexit negotiations.

The DUP's deputy leader Nigel Dodds confirmed that the party's condition for shoring up the new Tory government is an assurance that Northern Ireland will not be accorded special European Union status after Brexit that will keep it distinct from the rest of the United Kingdom.

Nuns were among the voters in Britain's early elections. Assuming the talks go well and the DUP agrees to back the Conservatives (this isn't too big of a stretch), a government will be formed and May will remain PM.

"We must in my view seek to deliver an open Brexit, not a closed one, which puts our countrys economic growth first", Davidson said.

May also reappointed an old adversary - Michael Gove, a former rival for the Conservative leadership whom May fired from the Cabinet when she took office a year ago.

European Union negotiators now know they face a depleted and unsteady government as the two sides press for advantage in the Brexit talks.

She said: "I have wanted to achieve a large majority".

Labour is on 261 seats, an increase of 31.
