South Korea President to meet with Donald Trump at White House: Statement

The South Korean military on Tuesday said a suspected North Korean drone took photographs of a U.S. missile defense shield before crashing on its way back to the community country. The Sony digital camera aboard the drone had hundreds of photos stored, though most of the images were of various agricultural areas in South Korea, according to the report.

South Korean officials recently stumbled upon what is believed to be a North Korean drone that didn't make it back home.

South Korea's President Moon Jae-in suggested on Monday that countries in Northeast Asia could form a bloc - including isolated North Korea - to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, his presidential office said.

The THAAD system, controlled by the U.S., was deployed to the Korean peninsula back in March and is created to shoot down any North Korean missiles that might pose a threat to South Korea, the United States, or other allies in the region.

South Korean military officials estimate that North Korea possesses around 300 military drones.

Under a deal with Moon's conservative predecessor, the United States deployed key components of the so-called Terminal High-Altitude Area Defence system this spring to cope with a potential North Korean nuclear threat.

China and Russian Federation assert that the U.S.is using the North Korean threat as an excuse to expand its ballistic missile defense in the area, crippling the nuclear deterrence capabilities of these two countries.

He's been hounded by speculation over the possibility of a third meeting, with Democratic senators calling for an investigation. Instead he maintained that he was "not stonewalling", but "following the historic policies of the Department of Justice ".

The neighbours are technically at war after the 1950-53 Korean War ended in a truce and not a peace treaty. Intelligence officials estimate that North Korea could be less than two years away from striking the US.

Meanwhile, South Korea's military said a North Korean soldier walked across the heavily mined border between the countries and defected to the South.

China worries that the THAAD's X-band radar is snooping on its military moves in the region, and the government is treating the battery as nothing more than a headache, rather than a much-needed defense against North Korea's rapidly developing missiles.

Moon added, "It would not be impossible for South Korea and Japan to build a future-oriented relationship".

Kim Young-woo, a lawmaker with the center-right Bareun Party, said the drone is proof "South Korea airspace has been punctured", local newspaper Donga Ilbo reported.

Moon wants to engage North Korea in dialogue and revive stalled exchanges with the reclusive country including economic cooperation projects, saying sanctions alone have failed to rein in North Korea's accelerating development of weapons.
