Suspected North Korea drone took photos of USA missile-defense site

North Korea has warned Donald Trump that it will soon be capable of launching a nuclear attack on New York City.

Pentagon chief James Mattis has warned that North Korea poses the most urgent threat to worldwide peace and security, calling the regime's weapons program a "clear and present danger" to all.

At the end of last month, North Korea released photos of a Scud-type missile being launched and falling into the water off the western coast of Japan - the third such show of military aggression in the space of three weeks.

Last week the prospect for Moon's push to expand cross-border exchanges was thrown into doubt as the North rejected a Seoul civic group's offer to provide relief items.

The drone, according to the report, was found last week just days after North Korea test-fired a salvo of anti-ship missiles.

There have also been concerns that North Korea is developing a missile that could hit the US mainland.

An interim agreement, even though it wouldn't solve the North Korean nuclear problem, would at least keep it from getting any worse and lower the risks of war and instability, which is a positive result considering the current circumstances, Haass said. Japan must make the effort to understand South Korean sentiment, he reportedly said.

South Korean Defense Ministry said on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, the suspected North Korean drone found near the Korean border was found to have taken photos of a US missile defense shield in the South. Investigators discovered hundreds of photos from the drone's Sony-made in-built camera.

It added that it was a mistake to think that sanctions could not succeed against a country like North Korea, which was less isolated than it appeared. North Korea is believed to have 300 drones in its arsenal, according to the AP report.

Separately, former National Basketball Association (NBA) star Dennis Rodman is expected to arrive in North Korea on Tuesday.

Rodman told reporters at Beijing's worldwide airport that he is going to North Korea to open a door, but has no plans to discuss the four USA citizens being held by Pyongyang.

'While the success of the Hwasong-12 may advance the North Korean ICBM program by perhaps a year, deployment of an operational ICBM prior to 2020 is still unlikely, ' analyst John Schilling told the US-Korea Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies recently. As a result, the Trump administration needs to be prepared to act unilaterally, these officials said.
