China is reportedly ready to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan to help the two countries improve relations.

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to visit Kabul where he will meet Afghan officials and will work to discuss the possibility of organising a meeting between Afghanistan, Pakistan, the U.S. and China, the statement said. "Peace with Pakistan was our demand and this must be solved between government and government", Ghani told the participants at this meeting.

Now the Trump administration is considering sending up to 5,000 more troops to to support Afghan military and police units fighting the Taliban, as well as deploying special-operations forces to counter ISIS and Al Qaeda elements along the Afghan-Pakistan border.

Such a move is "highly relevant to the development and security of the neighbouring region and the countries", Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang told the media while reacting to reports that US President Donald Trump has given defence secretary Jim Mattis the authority to determine troop levels in Afghanistan.

He said that Kabul recently gathered evidence showing that Pakistan is supporting insurgency and shared this with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, the U.S Congress and other organizations.

UN Undersecretary-General Jan Kubis traveled to Kabul earlier this week "in the interest of completing a Security Council-requested strategic review" of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and its work, UNAMA said.

Haqqani also rejected it was behind a recent bombing near the Grand Mosque in western Herat city, which left seven people dead and 16 others wounded.

The Secretary General's visit comes in the wake of a series of deadly terrorist attacks across the country.

Pakistan always rejects allegations that it supports insurgency.
