Teen dances to the beat after lifesaving heart transplant

A Maryland teenager celebrated his heart transplant by breaking into dance from his hospital bed.

Amari Hall was born with a heart defect and needed a heart transplant.

It was only six days after his lifesaving surgery, his family said.

His aunt, Charawn Hunter, posted the now-viral video to raise awareness of the importance of becoming an organ donor.

Amari was born with a heart defect known as hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a condition that affects normal blood flow through the heart. But, that changed toward the end of previous year, when a visit to the cardiologist confirmed Amari's heart had started to fail. "It's my time. I need to have this done so let's get it over with, '" recalled Amari's mom, Juaquinna Hall.

It was a visit to the doctor his family will never forget not only because of the diagnosis but also because of Amari's strength.

'I know that many of you are inspired by our Awesome Amari dancing 6 days after his heart transplant. "'I need to have this done'".

By December, Amari was admitted to the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore to wait for a transplant. Amari missed his friends and going to school, his mom said.

Amari will continue to be closely monitored by doctors and undergo regular heart biopsies, in addition to taking medicine to prevent his body's immune system from rejecting his new heart.

About two years ago, his doctors told him his heart was failing and they would have to place him on the transplant list.

Even his nurses started dancing in his hospital room. "He loves LeBron but I know he's busy but please help me making his video go viral", Hunter wrote on Facebook.

"I want to be dancing with the ladies", said Amari, who was strong enough to take his girlfriend on a date last weekend to celebrate her birthday.

The fearless patient was released from the hospital in May, and doctors hope he can return to school by fall.
