The charges against Bill Cosby, and sentences they carry

Cosby was painted as a predator and callous manipulator by the prosecution, while the defence portrayed him as a lover and kindly mentor.

Jurors in Bill Cosby's Pennsylvania sexual assault trial are ending deliberations for the night.

As jury deliberations continued on Tuesday, Cosby's spokesman, Andrew Wyatt, released a statement from a woman, Marguerite Jackson, who was barred from testifying as a defense witness. After four hours they were unable to reach a verdict, and will resume again today.

He said Constand was always clear on the key facts: Cosby gave her unidentified pills he suggested were herbal, and then sexually abused her. Prosecutors also called a second accuser, Kelly Johnson, who told jurors that Cosby sexually assaulted her in a similar manner in 1996.

She said Cosby gave her three pills and wine before touching her breasts, putting his fingers in her vagina and putting her hand on his erect penis after she sought his advice about moving to Canada and switching careers.

Cosby's prior use of Quaaludes with women, Steele argued, show that he had knowledge of what he was doing when he gave Constand those pills.

Senate Republicans and Democrats reached agreement late Monday on a new package of sanctions on Russian Federation amid the firestorm over Russia's meddling in the presidential election and investigations into Moscow's possible collusion with members of President Donald Trump's campaign. They've been deliberating for two hours, and have had dinner brought in.

In his two-hour final pitch to jurors, McMonagle painted Constand as a liar who badly damaged her credibility with conflicting statements to police when she first came forward in 2005. They say Cosby is being prosecuted now because of a media firestorm after excerpts from his lurid deposition became public. "He gave her no choice in this matter".

The jury got the case late Monday afternoon, on the sixth day of the trial. That is evidenced, he said, by how Cosby left Constand disheveled on a couch after the incident. The jury at Cosby's trial began deliberating Monday over whether he drugged and molested a woman more than a decade ago in a case t. By allowing Cosby's wife to enter the courtroom in the middle of proceedings while the judge was speaking, officials at the Montgomery Courthouse extended her an extraordinary and unprecedented courtesy. "They'll take the edge off", Cosby told her, she testified.

Dozens of women say he assaulted them, but statutes of limitation rules mean he is on trial for only one allegation.

The lawyer emphasized that criminal charges were put into motion by attorneys in a previous civil lawsuit that offered no evidence of guilt. "He says she doesn't say 'yes, '" Steele said. Last week, police detectives read aloud his statements to police in 2005 and in his civil deposition in 2006 responding to the allegations.

Steele also reminded jurors about a telephone conversation in which Cosby apologized to Constand's mother and described himself as a "sick man".

Earlier in the day Monday, the defense called only one witness to the stand. "'Yeah, it was romantic; yeah, he was giving me sweaters; yeah, he was telling me how to wear my hair, '" he said, mimicking Constand's voice, as he made the closing argument in Cosby's criminal trial on three counts of aggravated indecent assault. Camille Cosby also sat in the front row, with a few other people and the aisle between them.

Cosby, then 66, had a close friendship with Constand that occasionally turned sexual, McMonagle said in his closing argument.

Once McMonagle finished, prosecutor Steele began his impassioned closing argument.

Camille Cosby isn't in the courtroom for that.

Sex with an unconscious person can not be consensual, Steele noted.

Cosby is charged with sexually assaulting a woman at his suburban Philadelphia home in January 2004.

The closing arguments took place after the defense rested its case after questioning just one witness. "What's she going to say tomorrow?" he said.

The implication is that she was after money from Cosby, one of America's wealthier stars.

ALLYN: Accuser Andrea Constand sat stone-faced during closing arguments.
