Trump Considering Firing Special Counsel? Just Another Example Of Stirring The Pot

A longtime confidante of Donald Trump said in a television interview last night that the U.S. president was considering firing special counsel Robert Mueller, who is now leading the FBI's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Susan Collins, R-Maine, asked Rosenstein during an open Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing what he would do if Trump asked him to fire Mueller.

Rosenstein was testifying hours ahead of a separate Senate appearance by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who was expected to face sharp questions from his former colleagues about his role in Comey's firing, his Russian contacts during the campaign and his decision to step aside from the investigation involving Moscow and the Trump campaign.

"Senators, I'm not going to follow any orders unless I believe those are lawful and appropriate orders", Rosenstein said. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., if he's seen any reason for Mueller to be fired, Rosenstein said, "I have not". The Act made it hard for the attorney general to fire that special counsel.

Rosenstein continued to defend the investigation and the Department of Justice's oversight, saying "I can assure you we're going to do the right thing and defend the integrity of the investigation".

Ruddy, an early donor to Trump's presidential campaign, was reportedly at the White House on Monday. Over the weekend, a Trump lawyer publicly refused to rule out that possibility, stressing that the president has the necessary authority.

Trump could order Mueller fired. The deputy attorney general also said: "I'm confident (Mueller) has full independence". Consequently, he recused himself from any investigations into Russian Federation in March.

But I guess the question is: How does he-so in the attorney general's what appears to be only statement that Jeff Sessions made on this - I may be incorrect - but the main statement was March 2nd 2017: 'I've chose to recuse myself from any existing or future investigations of any matters related in any way to the campaigns for president of the United States'.

The White House appeared blindsided by it, but took hours to address it, triggering speculation it was, one, a plan indeed and Moody was testing the waters for Trump, and two, it was an attempt by a anxious administration to intimidate the counsel and the formidable team of lawyers he was putting together.

It's believable enough. After all, Trump fired James Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein says he has seen no evidence of good cause to fire the special prosecutor overseeing the Russian Federation investigation.

Mueller and former FBI Director James Comey worked closely for years in the George W. Bush administration, when Mueller was FBI director and Comey was deputy attorney general.

Can Trump really fire Robert Mueller?

The dismissal would come, he said due to reports of conflicts of interest involving Mueller and White House officials.

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter offered a similar message, tweeting, "Now that we know TRUMP IS NOT UNDER INVESTIGATION, Sessions should take it back & fire Mueller". "I personally think it would be a significant mistake, even though I don't think there is a justification [for a special counsel]".

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said via email, "Chris speaks for himself".
