Trump derails infrastructure speech to whine about Democrats obstructing his agenda

"We were really pleased to see he used key facts" about system-wide infrastructure needs, said Mike Toohey, executive director of the Waterways Council Inc. "We will create the first-class infrastructure our country and our people deserve". Later in the day, Comey's opening statement for his Thursday appearance before the committee was released, dominating news coverage.

Trump has not detailed the source of the $200 billion or the breakdown in spending.

The president also discussed plans to overhaul the country's health insurance law, commonly known as Obamacare.

"Maybe they can start talking to members about a specific product next week, but I would not be surprised if we don't", a Republican aide said.

"We will fix it", said Trump, standing along the Ohio River.

Trump says the families have "had their lives completely upended by the disaster known as Obamacare".

Withrow said if he passed on the costs to his employees, they would likely leave the company.

"Every single thing is obstruction", he said "Honestly, if I were in that party, I wouldn't be doing it that way".

"Jared has actually become much more famous than me - I'm a little upset at that", Trump said of his son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner at the top of the meeting.

The "House took an important first step to rescue Americans from this calamity" - it's the Senate's turn to act, he said. "Obamacare was one of the biggest broken promises in the history of politics", he went on.

'Just yesterday we learned that the last statewide insurer in OH is leaving.

Infrastructure was supposed to be the one area where President Donald Trump would find common ground with Democrats. Senate Republicans are working on their own version.

Trump is also talking up his controversial decision to pull the US out of what he dismissively referred to as the "so-called" Paris climate accord.

Trump said as long as he is president "we will never have outside forces telling us what to do and how to do it". That drama will come to a head on Thursday when former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey, who was leading the Russian Federation probe until Trump fired him last month, testifies before a Senate panel. Trump has denied the allegations and called the Russian Federation story "fake news".

The speech comes as the White House attempts to work through a series of distractions by focusing on Trump's legislative agenda. "It's time to recapture our legacy as a nation of builders and to create new lanes of travel, commerce, and discovery, and we're going to see all the way into the future, and the future's going to be attractive, and the future's going to be bright", he added.

"We have to be creative", she said.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, inland waterways support upwards of 270,000 jobs and $30.9 billion in annual economic activity. AP writer Bruce Schreiner contributed to this report from Louisville, Kentucky.

At Lunken Airport, Trump spoke briefly in favor of his proposed health care reforms. Shown are PlayCare co-owner Rays Whalen, left, and CSS Distribution Group President Dan Withrow and their families.

The president is expected to meet first with people described by the White House as "victims" of the Obama-era health law that Trump and congressional Republicans want to repeal.
