Trump friend: Mueller 'illegitimate as special counsel'

Trump cheerleaders turn on special counsel Mueller

Donald Trump is considering firing former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating if Russian Federation colluded in last year's bitter election campaign, a friend of the U.S. president said Monday, June 12, 2017.

The responsibility for appointing (or theoretically firing) Mueller lies with Rosenstein because his boss, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, recused himself in March from all investigations involving Russian Federation and the 2016 elections.

But Attorney General Rod Rosenstein told a Senate appropriations subcommittee on Tuesday that "there is no secret plan [to remove Mueller] that involves me", USA Today reports.

That push-back came from top officials from the party's congressional wing as well as from administration officials who actually have the legal authority over the special counsel and would need to be involved in any firing. With respect to the subject, only the president or his attorneys are authorized to comment'.

He called because "I have been very clear" about Mueller and the lawyers he's hired amounting to a "rigged game", Gingrich said in an interview Tuesday on CBS. White House officials confirmed that Ruddy was the White House Monday, but said he didn't meet with the president and never spoke with him about the issue. Under the regulation, Special Counsel Mueller may be fired only for good cause, and I am required to put that cause in writing. Conservative Analyst Ann Coulter said that Attorney General Sessions "never should've recused himself" from the Russian Federation investigation.

Rosenstein said "I think the answer is no" but said it would depend on the circumstances.

Three members of the legal team known to have been hired so far by Mueller have given political donations nearly exclusively to Democrats, according to a CNN analysis of Federal Election Commission records. Gingrich added that those who believe the investigation is going to be. Newt Gingrich emerged from his Saran Wrap cocoon on a Transylvanian stalactite, as he seems to every year-and-a-half or so, to impugn the integrity of the special counsel, who, on May 17, Gingrich Tweeted was a "superb choice" for the job. "The best case for the president is to be vindicated by allowing this investigation to go on thoroughly and independently", Ryan said.

Rosenstein told the Senate Intelligence Committee that he's seen no reason why Mueller should be fired.

Questions over Mueller's future were raised after a longtime friend of the President said he was thinking out getting rid of him. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Susan Collins (R-ME), Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and John McCain (R-AZ), who have either expressed confidence in Mueller, or concern at talk of Trump dismissing him. His comments came just days after explosive comments by ousted FBI director James Comey to the same committee, suggesting that Trump sought to interfere with the investigation.

Said Ryan: "I know Bob Mueller".

"Comey created an opportunity by leaking and possibly committing a crime by colluding with others in the Department of Justice, and Mueller was his good friend", the Texas Republican opined.
