Trump offers to speak under oath after Comey testimony

Trump was appearing in a Rose Garden press conference along with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.

The president's personal lawyer on Thursday denied that Trump asked Comey to drop the Flynn investigation.

Mr Comey told the Senate panel he took meticulous notes of each meeting or conversation he had with Mr Trump because "I was honestly concerned that he might lie about the nature of our meeting, and so I thought it really important to document".

Trump said he never asked Comey for a pledge of loyalty and never told Comey he hoped the investigation of Flynn would go away. "Who would ask a man to pledge allegiance under oath?" he said.

While Mr Trump's staunchest supporters have tried to paint Mr Comey's testimony as vindication for the president, few Republicans who do not work for Trump have stepped in to defend the president's version of his contacts with the former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief.

TRUMP: And there'd be nothing wrong if I did say it, according to everybody that I've read today, but I did not say that.

Mr Trump first suggested that he had tapes in a tweet about his ex-FBI chief Mr Comey, who he fired last month.

Trump Jr. specifically said on the air, "When he tells you to do something, guess what?"

Mr Trump has since told reporters that he did not say this to Mr Comey, causing observers to question which man they should believe. "That was an excuse by the Democrats who lost an election that some people think they shouldn't have lost, because it's nearly impossible for the Democrats to lose the electoral college, as you know", the president said.

"I think it's inappropriate for the president to testify publicly", Graham said on "Face the Nation".

Trump added that he would "100 percent" testify under oath and answer questions from special counsel Robert Mueller. "And some of the things he said just weren't true".

Trump wrote earlier on Friday on Twitter that the former FBI head had vindicated him by telling the Senate Intelligence Committee that the president had not been personally under investigation in the Russian Federation probe.

But Donald Trump Jr. - the president's eldest son - seemed to confirm Comey's version of events in a Saturday interview on Fox News as he tried to emphasize the fact that his father did not directly order Comey to stop investigating Flynn.

"This is an issue that the president should have cleared up in his press conference", Collins said on CNN's State of the Union. I hope there are tapes" tore through the Internet, with the inevitable T-shirts following, and Comey then dared Trump to release the tapes: "The President surely knows if there are tapes.

Mr Trump tweeted earlier on Friday he felt "complete vindication" after the hearing.
