Trump Says Comey Lying, Willing to Speak Under Oath

President Donald Trump has accused fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey of lying to Congress and said he was "100%" willing to testify under oath about their conversations. "Totally illegal? Very 'cowardly!'".

In his testimony to Congress last Thursday, Mr Comey laid bare on Capitol Hill months of distrust of the President, asserting that Mr Trump had fired him to interfere with the probe of Russia's ties to the Trump campaign.

Comey, we now know, testified under oath that the president did talk to the then-FBI director about the Flynn case, encouraged him to back off the former White House National Security Advisor, and in the process, added weight to the allegations that the president may have obstructed justice.

"The article and headline have been corrected to reflect that Comey does not directly dispute that Trump was told multiple times he was not under investigation in his prepared testimony released after this story was published", CNN's correction to their article read.

"Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication ... and WOW, Comey is a leaker!".

Donald Trump shakes hands with his Romanian counterpart Klaus Iohannis after a joint news conference in the Rose Garden on Friday.

Trump lashed out at Comey, dubbing him a "leaker" for indirectly providing reporters with the contents of his memos summarizing their private conversations in the weeks before he was sacked.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, I'll tell you about that maybe sometime in the very near future. He further revealed during his testimony that he had given the story about Trump putting pressure on him to the New York Times, in order to prompt the appointment of a special counsel, which had duly happened the next day. "We've obviously pressed the White House", he said.

Mr Trump's aides have dodged questions about whether conversations relevant to the Russian Federation investigation have been recorded, and so has the president.

Former FBI director James Comey is sworn in during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on Capitol Hill, Thursday, June 8, 2017, in Washington.

A member of Trump's legal team, Jay Sekulow said "the president said he is going to address the issue of the tapes, whether the tapes exist or not, next week". But we were very, very happy and, frankly, James Comey confirmed a lot of what I said.

Gingrich said Comey represented the deep state "permanent opposition" to the president, who would stop at nothing to "keep their influence" and harm Trump's presidency. In congressional testimony last week, Comey said he gave a copy of that memo to Richman - whom he identified only by his job - so he could provide details to a reporter. The president also said the investigation is an "excuse" by the Democrats before they lost the election.

Trump abruptly fired Comey as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation on May 9, later admitting that the Russian Federation probe was on his mind at the time.
