Trump tells senators House health bill 'mean'

"My time is probably 70 percent dedicated toward trying to reach an agreement that works on Obamacare repeal and replace, maybe 20 percent is on the tax reform that I want to do immediately after we get Obamacare taken care of and maybe 10 percent on all the other miscellaneous things that come across my desk and very, very close to zero on Trump and Russian Federation".

The tension between placating the party's anti-government activist base and avoiding the ire of the vast majority of the rest of America is why we're not likely to see or hear much of anything from the Senate GOP on their plans to repeal and repeal the Affordable Care Act until the last possible minute. Expectations are that senators are considering a number of tweaks to the legislation that passed the House on May 4.

"As we go along, we hear more and more details as to what's being considered and so this week I do expect to hear more details", he said on Monday. The problem with the House bill, if we're judging by the way the Senate has conducted its process, was that the public got to see it at all.

Republicans in the House barely managed to drag their bill across the finish line. Like right now, as Congressional Republicans attempt to pass a health care bill that no one in the public has yet read. Now, Senate Republicans find themselves in the very same boat.

Democrats though, who have largely championed the issue of prescription drug prices, will still have two more chances to home in on it: Tuesday's hearing was the first of three hearings planned on the topic this year, said Alexander, before he left for the Republican meeting on the health-care bill.

Asked directly on Monday if a bill would be presented to senators on Tuesday, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn said simply, "No".

Yet the Kentucky Republican did not give an explicit timetable for finishing a bill, instead saying "members will keep working this week because bringing relief from Obamacare may not be easy, but it is necessary. We are going to come out with a real bill, not Obamacare".

However, her office revealed last week that she will kill the ACA in a slightly softer manner - phasing out the Medicaid expansion over seven years, perhaps from 2020 to 2027. Rob Portman? In his state, 700,000 people gained insurance as a result of the Medicaid expansion.

Trump, meanwhile, is mounting a fresh push to toss out Obamacare and replace it.

Sen. Lamar Alexander, the chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, will also attend the lunch, as will Sens.

Trump will also meet with "Obamacare victims" on Tuesday when he travels to Wisconsin.

Once the bill is out in the open, and hits the Senate floor for a vote, it faces a fractured chamber, not to mention a complete lack of Democratic support.

Senate Republicans have their fair share of critics who are frustrated that they are considering the bill behind closed doors. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders tweeted a photo of a blank piece of paper with the caption, "BREAKING: Senate Republicans just released the schedule of hearings, committee markups and public testimony for their health care bill".
