Trump's lawyer to file leak complaint against Comey, report says

A reporter asked Trump why he feels "vindicated" by Comey's Senate testimony, and asked about whether the president has tapes of his interactions, as Trump has previously suggested.

President Donald Trump declined to say whether there are recorded conversations of his meetings with James Comey, the Federal Bureau of Investigation director he fired, telling reporters that he may reveal whether such tapes exist "in the very near future".

"Well, I didn't say that, and I mean I will you tell you I didn't say that", Trump said.

Comey would not say whether he thought the president sought to obstruct justice, but added it would be up to special counsel Robert Mueller, who is now investigating the Russian Federation allegations, "to sort that out".

Trump told reporters during a joint press conference with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis that he never asked Comey for a loyalty pledge or urged him to scuttle an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn. There would be "nothing wrong if I did say" something regarding Flynn, Trump said "according to everybody I read today".

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Oh, you're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer.

TRUMP: I would be glad to tell him exactly what I just told you.

"Well, I didn't say that", Trump said. The president also said the investigation is an "excuse" by the Democrats before they lost the election.

Meanwhile, the House Intelligence Committee asked on Friday for Comey's memos to be handed over, and separately sent a letter to the White House demanding any "recordings or memoranda" of conversations with Comey that Trump or the White House may or may not possess.

The committee want the material by 23 June. "Yesterday showed no collusion, no obstruction", Mr Trump said.

The Senate group requested the memos from Professor Daniel Richman, the friend Comey gave his notes to, and the House group requested any memos still in Comey's possession.

The president had previewed his attacks against Mr Comey in an early-morning tweet that broke his previous day's silence on his favorite social media megaphone.

"Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication", Trump tweeted, "and WOW, Comey is a leaker!" Trump said there was no collusion and no obstruction and then called Comey a "leaker".

Comey's testimony neither exonerated nor convicted the president, instead laying out a road map of questions for Mueller to follow about Trump's conduct, a path it could take Mueller months, even years, to follow. "One hundred per cent...."
