Gen. Eric Holder's investigation into the company's workplace culture.

In describing reasons for the leave, Kalanick also cited the death of his mother and serious injuring of his father in a boating accident last month, saying, "I need to take some time off of the day-to-day to grieve my mother, whom I buried on Friday, to reflect, to work on myself, and to focus on building out a world-class leadership team".

Uber board member Arianna Huffington gave an address to employees in attendance announcing the appointment of Wan Ling Martello to the company board and expressing her hopes that having another woman in a position of power would improve the conditions at Uber.

At an all-hands meeting meant to deal with a report highlighting a culture of sexism at Uber, TPG co-founder and Uber board member David Bonderman cracked a bad joke about women talking too much.

Bonderman joked that the data actually shows that more women leads to more yapping.

Much like Fox News, it seems like it's a company that is basically rotten to the core, which an Uber board member named David Bonderman made clear during a company-wide meeting today.

It was a stunningly tone-deaf moment.

"I want to apologize to my fellow board member for a disrespectful comment that was directed at her during today's discussion", said Bonderman, a man worth an estimated $2.5 billion.

Bonderman's remark created uproar at a time when the company is trying to fix its image after allegations of sexual harassment, workplace misconduct and leadership issues. "It was inappropriate. I also want to apologize to all Uber employees who were offended by the remark".

The gaffe comes after Uber investigated 47 counts of sexual harassment within the company, uncovered after Uber engineer Susan Fowler claimed the company failed to act on sexual harassment and gender discrimination complaints.

Bonderman added that he "deeply regrets" the remark.
