Uber's SVP of Business Emil Michael Just Left the Company

It would be tough for the board to remove Kalanick because of Uber's stock ownership structure.

Uber's long-time head of business, Emil Michael, has left the company, according to an Uber spokesperson.

Full view will be published shortly.

Amid all the investigations on workplace culture and sexual harassment on Uber, the company board has now been discussing Kalanick's possible three months long leave of absence.

Meanwhile, it was understood the recommendations in the Holder report would result in greater controls on spending, human resources and other areas where executives led by CEO Travis Kalanick had a surprising amount of autonomy for a company with more than 12,000 employees.

Removing the executives is part of the recommendations made in a report by former attorney general Eric Holder, who was hired along with two law firms, including his own, Covington & Burlington in Los Angeles and Perkins Coie, to investigate reports of Uber's allegedly abusive work culture.

The engineer, former Uber employee Susan Fowler Rigetti described systematic sexual harassment in which she and female co-workers at the company were openly propositioned for sex and other "inappropriate behavior" by a supervisor. J. William Gurley and David Bonderman, two independent board members, are said to already be anxious about Kalanick's management. They could include the firing of Michael and a leave of absence for Kalanick, Bloomberg News reported Monday. There have been reports that top officials, including Uber's CTO and one of its board members, might be put under the microscope.

Kalanick lost his temper earlier this year in an argument with an Uber driver who was complaining about pay, and the CEO's profanity-laced comments were caught on video.

Last week, Uber's head of its Asia-Pacific operation was sacked after he accessed the medical records of a woman who was raped in India during a Uber ride.

Also in the email he spoke of joining the company four years ago and helping make it "the fastest-growing company of all time".

Uber has sincefaced other problems, including an intellectual property dispute over self-driving vehicle technology with Waymo, the self-driving auto business that operates under Google's parent company.

After a tumultuous few weeks for Uber, we're finally seeing real changes at the company.

Last week, Uber fired 20 employees after 215 harassment complaints were reviewed by another law firm in a separate investigation.
