Warriors' Game 5 win wraps up highly-watched NBA Finals

The Golden State Warriors regained the National Basketball Association title from the Cleveland Cavaliers as a 129-120 win on Monday night sealed the finals series 4-1.

"As far as that team, they're going to be here for a while", Cleveland superstar LeBron James said of the Warriors.

"There's no doubt in my mind that [Kerr] will return as the coach of this team", Warriors GM Bob Myers confirmed to ESPN, following their title-winning defeat of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Durant's decision to be the final piece of a basketball Voltron was unprecedented, but in the end no one was more responsible for Golden State lifting the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

"I'm just happy for him".

Jerry West went 1-8 in the NBA Finals.

'JUST WANT TO DO IT AGAIN' After dropping last year's title to Cleveland making the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history from a 3-1 deficit, the Warriors vowed not to stumble again.

The win provided redemption for the Warriors, who brought Kevin Durant over from the Oklahoma City Thunder last offseason to bolster their already high-powered offense.

The diminishing of his and the Warriors' accomplishment won't just stop, but ultimately Golden State needed Durant as much as he needed them, with both sides achieving their goal.

The first-time title victor scored 39 points as point guard Stephen Curry posted 34 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. "They're going to be around for a while". "It's different just because of what happened past year".

The Cavaliers aren't constructed for the same longevity. "I left everything on the floor every game, all five games", he said.

That's down the road.

Does Cavaliers general manager David Griffin look to star free agents or trade deals?

Warriors guard Stephen Curry shot just 2-for-9 from beyond the arc but finished with 34 points and a team-high 10 assists.

James hit a layup to open the fourth quarter and pull Cleveland within 98-95, as close as the Cavs had been in the second half after trailing by 17 in the second quarter.

The Warriors, who were playing a Game 5 for the first time in the postseason, shot 51.1 percent from the field and 36.8 percent on 3-pointers. Fouled Out-None. Rebounds-Cleveland 40 (James 13), Golden State 42 (Green 12).

Monday's loss denied the Cavaliers a chance to repeat as champions and for James to get his fourth championship ring.

It's been two years since the Warriors had the last championship parade in the Bay Area, which is a relatively long wait given the Bay's recent run of sports success.

His new challenge is to get back on top.
