Warriors ride Durant to beat Cavaliers and clinch National Basketball Association title

After the Golden State Warriors won the National Basketball Association title in five games, a LeBron-led team has now lost for the fifth time in the Finals.

Golden State locked up its fifth title in franchise history with Monday's 129-120 win over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.

Durant, who will likely be crowned Finals MVP, finished with a team-high 39 points on 14-of-20 shooting. Paul George would fit the bill, as he helped IN put up the best showing against the Cleveland Cavaliers IN the playoffs leading up to the NBA Finals by averaging 28 points along with 8.8 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and 1.8 steals.

But while the victory was enough to please Warriors fans, those that bet on Golden State to cover the spread in Game 5 left the game with an absolutely brutal taste in their mouths, all thanks to J.R. Smith.

How can any team beat the Warriors, given that they are expected to have Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson for at least the next two seasons?

Durant, who was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player, became the first player with five consecutive 30-point performances in the NBA Finals since Shaquille O'Neal in 2000. "We're champions. And we're celebrating on our home court". "I might call him and say, 'If they ask, just say our schedules conflicted.'And then if Y'all write something, we'll say, 'Fake News'".

"I mean, come on, you got a bunch of guys who are talented and can shoot and pass and dribble, and they're unselfish", Kerr said.

During the trophy ceremony, Golden State Coach Steve Kerr said, "I want to say a special thank you to Mike Brown and my whole coaching staff".

It's been two years since the Warriors had the last championship parade in the Bay Area, which is a relatively long wait given the Bay's recent run of sports success.

"All the tactics that he used to get elected are the very things that someone like me, who works with youth on a consistent basis, are the things that we try to talk our young folks out of being".

Durant's stellar play all season and throughout the playoffs vindicated Golden State's massive payout to the superstar in a controversial off-season deal. But even if he was back next season, that wouldn't have an impact on Paul's role with the team.

"We had a moment", Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said.

The Cavaliers have built their own near-unbeatable core with LeBron James, Kevin Love, Kyrie Irving and a host of other role players. "I've been so lucky to be part of so many championship teams as a player and now as a coach, and it never gets old".
