Warriors Say No Decision Yet On White House Visit

It didn't take long for the bubbly to start popping in the Golden State Warriors' locker room following a 129-120 title-clinching Game 5 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night.

The reigning champion Golden State Warriors addressed speculation about whether they will make the traditional visit to the White House, saying they "will make those decisions when and if necessary".

"Today is all about celebrating our championship", the team said in a statement Tuesday.

Thirty-four Patriots were present for the White House ceremony to honor their Super Bowl 51 win, which was a similar number of attendees to when the Patriots won in 2004 and 2005, according to Patriots spokesman Stacey James.

Championship celebrations at the White House have become a tradition in American sports, with the first believed to have occurred in 1925 when President Calvin Coolidge hosted the Washington Senators. The reports did not specifically cite President Trump as a reason, but Warriors coach Steve Kerr and star Stephen Curry have been particularly critical of Trump since the election. "Has anyone ever thought that Donald Trump was a great leader?"

Several other members of the Warriors have also criticized Trump. Tom Brady also chose to skip it at the last moment because of "family matters".

The Chicago Cubs went to White House just four days before former President Barack Obama left office following the team's World Series victory against the Cleveland Indians.

The defending World Series champion Chicago Cubs chose to visit the White House in January to celebrate their historic 2016 title with former IL senator and outgoing President Barack Obama before he left office.
