Mid Transfer Window in IPL

The annual cricket carnival of India, Indian Premier League, has started with a bang with matches witnessing jam-packed stadiums and a lot of enthusiasm among the fans for the cash-rich mega event.

The IPL has evolved over the years and has become bigger and better with every edition while setting new benchmarks for the shortest format of the game. The strategic time out is one such mid-game innovation which IPL had brought to the format.

IPL 2018 will also witness some changes to the T20 game with the introduction of the Decision Review System(DRS), Virtual Reality and football style mid-season transfers.

The DRS had been implemented in the T20I earlier, making it usual for the audience but the IPL governing council’s decision to introduce a mid-season transfer window in the league is a breath of fresh air to the IPL.

The governing council has made provisions for the transfer of uncapped players and the players who have not played more than two matches up to the halfway stage of the league. Reportedly, the transfer window will last for a period of five days and will take place between 28th and 42nd match according to IPL schedule.

The transfer of a particular player will only take place if there is a demand from another franchise for the player. This will help the players who are benched by the teams as they don’t fit into the combinations of the team. The transfer window will help them get more games if there is a demand for them.

This move is hailed as a major boost to the IPL and will add value to the tournament helping the franchise model evolve. It will help the teams to alter their bench combinations if there is a need to get a player or give a player.
